A cadet course sparked a local woman's interest in photography.

Iroquois Falls' Catherin Bell is working in the HMCS Ontario administration office this summer and credits a cadet correspondent course as the reason she's interested in photography, according to HMCS Ontario news release.

The 20-year-old was an air cadet with 792 Major W McCarthy Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron when she took the course, which also led her to pursue communications in college.

“I want to become an imagery technician for the Canadian Armed Forces,” she said in the news release.  “It’s my dream, something I’ve wanted to do for a while.”

Bell is taking advertising, marketing, communication and creative design at Loyalist College in Belleville. This is her second summer working as an adult staff at HMCS. Before that she was a staff cadet at the Connaught Cadet Training Centre.Since arriving in Kingston, she’s taken a few hundred photos of the cadet training centre.

“I’ve deleted a lot already due to poor lighting or other conditions," she said.

If you're interested in cadets, the program is open to youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years. More details are available online here.
