Northern College held a ceremony for two graduating classes from the Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program today at the Timmins Campus.
The 12-14 week training programs, offered in partnership with Primero Mines and through the Northern School of Hard Rock Mining, in partnership with Glencore’s Kidd Operations, were completed by 10 students.
The Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program, delivered by Northern College at the Primero Mine Black Fox Mine Site and Kidd Operations Mine Site in Timmins, provides high skills training for people in the region.
The skills acquired through this program will provide the participants with increased employment opportunities in the mining sector.
Successful graduates now have the knowledge and skills to work effectively and safely in the mining industry as a Hard Rock Miner.
Topics covered in the modular training program include staging, rock bolting, scaling, lock and tagging, blasting, mucking, and drilling.
“This world-renowned program offered through our collaborative partnership with Primero Mine and Glencore’s Kidd Operations will help to prepare these graduates to enter and succeed in the mining industry,” said Christine Heavens, Executive Director, Community, Business Development and Employment Services at Northern College. “Partnerships like this benefit students, industry, and the broader community.”
