Northern College is hosting a recruitment event later this month to explore the law enforcement sector. The Careers in Policing information session will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Timmins Campus.

The one-day event, which is free to members of the public, will offer an opportunity to learn more about the many exciting and rewarding careers in law enforcement. The presentations will be live streamed across northeastern Ontario to communities and schools. As space is limited, pre-registration for schools and individuals attending at all locations is required.

“Northern College is dedicated to working closely with industry partners to provide quality experiences and networking opportunities, allowing our students to enhance their skills and prepare for their future careers,” said Northern College president and CEO Dr. Fred Gibbons. “We are pleased to be providing students with this opportunity to gain valuable insights into the law enforcement sector and to connect with academic and industry professionals.”

The morning session will consist of presentations on the job application process and candidate preparation for the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Ministry of Transportation and Timmins Police Service.

In the afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will host a recruitment workshop, providing participants with the opportunity to gain knowledge, insight and helpful advice relating to the OPP recruitment process. The session will include an overview of how to apply, prerequisites, expectations of an applicant and an overview on how to prepare for each step in the process.

There is a high demand for candidates in these professions. Suitable candidates come from a variety of post-secondary backgrounds including Trades, Health Care, Business, Technology and Community Services.
