TIMMINS - The date is set, the route's confirmed and there's still time to get a float into Saint Nick's annual tour of downtown Timmins.
The registration for the Santa Claus parade has been extended to Nov. 8. This week, Timmins council approved the parade route, which is slightly different than previous years.
"People from our community and across the region look forward to the parade every year. We estimate that some 12,000 to 15,000 people come out to see the parade. Our parade has over 50 entries each year, some 1,100 participants, plus over 100 volunteers along the parade route, making our parade the largest in Northern Ontario," Downtown BIA president Sherry Tremblay wrote in a letter to the City of Timmins.
This year's parade is on Saturday, Nov. 23 and the theme is musical notes and holiday floats. The cost to enter a float is $45 each.
All of the details and the registration package is available online here.
On parade day, the marshalling area for floats is in the Spruce Street South and Second Avenue area. Entries will head north on Spruce to Algonquin, take Algonquin to Pine Street, and head south on Pine to Third Avenue it stays westbound until Mountjoy.
Instead of crossing Algonquin Boulevard to end near Caisse Alliance, this year the route goes west on Wilson to end. The map approved by council is available here.
On the day of the parade, streets along the parade route will be closed to traffic at 5 p.m. There is no on-street parking starting at 4 p.m.
