TIMMINS – A Tannen Iserhoff marker, early in the middle stanza, held up as the game-winner Friday as the Greater Sudbury Cubs got past the Timmins Rock 3-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair held at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.
The NOJHL’s leading goal-getter got Greater Sudbury going nearly eight minutes into the match-up as Lucas Signoretti notched his 17th of the season with a sharp-angle chance that got past Timmins starter Dryden Riley.
Moving to the second period, the Cubs went up by a pair at 3:49 as a Rock dump in attempt bounced back off the stanchion that allowed a three-man break the other way and saw Iserhoff whip in a Ben Harris feed.
Heading to the third, a man advantage effort helped Timmins finally solve Greater Sudbury netminder Noah Beaulne when Alexis Tremblay jammed in a rebound off a Clark Scaddan attempt at 5:15.
Late in regulation, the Rock got Riley to the bench for an extra attacker, but the Cubs’ Jacob Lamoureux snagged a clearing attempt from teammate Mason Chitaroni and slid it in the empty with 40 seconds remaining to finalize the outcome.
The win moves Greater Sudbury’s record to 15-2-1-1 while in defeat, Timmins falls to 10-7-0-0.
