The doctors are looking for a few ringers as they prepare to take on the Timmins firefighters in a charity hockey game this month.
The April 22 game will see the Timmins Professional Firefighters Association’s Inferno take on the TDH Doctors Code Blue at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.
“We’ve had to pick up a few ringers to keep up with these firefighters, they’re in a little bit better shape than us, but we’re guaranteeing that we’re going to give a good competitive game,” said Dr. Rick Kvas.
The game is supporting two-year-old Lydia Allard, who is also known as Liddy Bug, who has a rare congenital neuromuscular disorder called nemaline rod myopathy.
“The community has to help with this whole upraising of the family because they’re in emerg often for medical concerns and it really takes a whole community to raise a family like Lydia’s and we want to help and support that in any way we can,” Kvas said.
Businesses from around town are doing their part to help out as well, according to organizer Andrew Hubbert.
During the game there will be a silent auction and 50/50 draw.
“We’ll also have TimBits hockey at first intermission and during the second intermission we’ll have a chance for someone to shoot for a $30,000 side-by-side,” Hubbert said.
Tickets to the game are $5 and available at the Timmins Fire Hall.
If you can’t attend the game and still want to help out, Hubbert said to call the station.
“We would be more than happy to take a drive and pick up any donations,” Hubbert said.
The Timmins Fire Hall is located at 133 Cedar St. S., or their number is 705-264-3589.
