The Harvest Moon Potluck and Silent auction is back for the first time since 2019. The Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins (ACT) fundraiser is on Oct. 15 at the Covenant United church, 230 Eighth Ave. It runs from 5-7:30 p.m.

"The idea is people bring dishes with ingredients that they’ve grown in their garden through the summer. It’s that time where everybody harvests, so we get together and put on a potluck to share in that homegrown feel,” said Kelsey MacDonnell, ACT executive director.

From casseroles to salads or soups, the table will be filled with a variety of options.

This will be the first Harvest Moon Potluck for MacDonnell, who recently took over as the head of the organization tackling food insecurity in the community.

"I’m looking forward to what people bring and things that they grew in their yummy gardens this summer,” she said.

The silent auction will feature different jams and items donated from people in the community. Anyone interested in helping out can donate handmade products or crafts, local produce, a framed photography print, fresh preserves or baked goods, artwork, a gift certificate or make a financial donation.

There are 100 tickets are being sold. Tickets are $5, though there is an option for people to give a little more if they can. Tickets are available on EventBrite or in person at the ACT office at 71 Balsam St. S.

The goal is to raise $5,000.

While it's not ACT's biggest fundraiser, it's one of their most popular. It's about people getting together and sharing, said MacDonnell.

Money raised is for the general programming offered by ACT.

The Good Food Program, which includes the Good Food markets and boxes that run regularly. Collective Cooking includes Food Fit Program and cooking workshops through partnerships with the Youth Wellness Hub and Porcupine Health Unit.

Recently, MacDonnell said there's been an increase in the number of people at the markets, which offer wholesale pricing that's passed directly on to customers.

This was also the first year that all of the community garden plots sold out.
