Here's what's open and closed this week for Christmas

Everything from garbage pick up to bus schedules is affected

TIMMINS - Ready or not, this week is Christmas. 

The holidays mean services such as banks and government offices are closed and may have shorter hours than usual when they're open. 

Here's what the holiday means for City of Timmins services:

Garbage collection 

People who receive curbside collection on Wednesdays will have their pick-up on Thursday, Dec. 26 instead.

The Deloro landfill, German Township landfill and Tisdale Transfer Station are closed on Dec. 25.

Timmins Transit 

On Dec. 24 there is regular service until 6 p.m., after which the buses are not running. There are no buses on Dec. 25, and Dec. 26 there is Sunday service.

Timmins Public Library

Hours at the main branch on Second Avenue in downtown Timmins are different this week. The schedule is:

  • Dec. 23 - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Dec. 24-26 - Closed 
  • Dec. 27-28 - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 29 - 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The hours at the C.M. Shields Centennial Library branch hours in South Porcupine are:

  • Dec. 23 - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Dec. 24-26 - Closed 
  • Dec. 27-28 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Dec. 29 - Closed

Other municipal services 

City Hall, Service Timmins and provincial offences close on Dec. 24 at 2:30 p.m, and are fully closed on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26.

The Archie Dillon Sportsplex pool and Timmins Museum: NEC are closed on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26.

The Timmins cemetery office is open on Dec. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Dec. 25 and 26.
