Timmins' ski hill is ready for its earliest opening in two decades.
Kamiskotia Snow Resort is opening for the season this Saturday, Nov. 30. General manager Eric Philipow said it's the earliest opening people can remember in 20 years.
With great weather in the forecast, he's encouraging people to head out to the hill.
Being able to open the slopes is thanks to mother nature.
Philipow said they started making snow on Nov. 8 and have been able to keep it up, except for a few shutdowns on the warm days.
“We’ll maximize on any revenue we can, so if we can extend our season we’ll definitely take advantage of it. No reason not to, there’s probably two and a half feet of natural snow out there, there’s no point in staring at it,” he said.
This weekend, the hill is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Skyway lift will be operating, and there are five groomed runs.
While there is no ski school, the rental shop, kitchen and bar will be open.
“The tube park won’t be open yet, we’re aiming for Dec. 14 on that. It’ll still be early, but not yet,” he said.
They are also aiming for mid-December to open the runs on the other side of the hill.
The popular mid-week Ride 'N Dines are also coming back this season.
Philipow said they will start after the Christmas break, they just need the snowmobile trails to open.
