NEWS RELEASE

IMPERIAL KLINGON VESSEL CRIMSON DAWN

*************************
The officers of the Imperial Klingon Vessel Crimson Dawn, the new Timmins branch of the Klingon Assault Group Star Trek fan and costuming club held their first official meeting this weekend.

The mighty warriors walked through town in costume, and staged a mock battle in the streets of Timmins with their hand made prop weapons before returning home to feast where they discussed plans for their presence at the upcoming Northern Ontario Expo.

With the opening of Jump City, a new Comics and Collectables shop, and the success of the Northern Ontario Expo, the fandom community in Timmins has truly begun to emerge.

The Klingon Assault Group arriving in the city offers not only the chance to help foster that growth locally, but to connect local fans with a network around the globe.

Whether your travels bring you to Toronto, London, Sydney, or LA, a group of your Klingon brethren will be there, eager to welcome you.

The fan group is geared toward bringing people together to celebrate their mutual passion for science fiction and costuming.

Though the group has few rules at all, the first and foremost is “Have fun!” As the group grows, they hope to hold regular local events and get togethers aimed at fulfilling this rule, and attending public events together such as conventions and movie premiers.

From the first time Canadian actor John Colicos arrived on screen playing the cunning Commander Kor in the 1967 Star Trek episode Errand of Mercy, the Klingon Empire has captured the imagination of fans the world over.

As the Star Trek franchise grew, Klingons evolved from the ominous foe lurking in every shadow into a civilization of warriors with a fire for life, and a devotion to duty and honour.

As such, when the members of KAG aren’t partying as only Klingons can, they are taking part in charity events, conducting blood drives and getting involved in the community.

With the new Star Trek movies continuing to draw attention on the big screen, and the franchise’s 50th anniversary right around the corner the Star Trek fan community www.kag.org continues to grow.

With this in mind, the Klingon Assault Group, the largest Klingon fan group in the world is expanding its territory into the North.

One of the best most unique things about the Klingon Assault Group is that membership can mean whatever you want it to mean. The costumes range from the simple gold vests of the Original Series to the elaborate armour and distinctive forehead ridges that later emerged.

“Membership is not limited to Klingons,” said Karen Fenton Hutchison, the founder of the new chapter. “Aliens of other races, and even those hailing from other universes and time lines are welcome to pledge their service to the Klingon Empire .”

KAG is unique in welcoming cosplayers from other franchises into the mix.

The group’s Imperial Xeno Legion is made up of every alien from Vulcans to Time Lords to Wookies.

The one simple rule when it comes to costuming is no humans!

There is no cost to join KAG, and costumes not required for membership.

People interested in joining are encouraged to contact the Commanding Officer, Karen Fenton Hutchison  at [email protected], or visit the ship on Facebook at  www.facebook.com/TimminsKlingons.
