At the Schumacher Lions Club park, the Timmins summer concert series kicks off Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. This week’s performers are Rogan Mei, Jeffery Badlock and Company, and Ladies Night Out.

The downtown Urban Park will be set up on Pine Street South between Second and First Aug. 8 – 10. This week’s theme is board games. Wednesdays the Urban Park offers kids’ activities, Thursday is the farmers’ market, and Friday is Tunes at Noon. It runs from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, but keep in mind that the farmers can’t start selling on market day until 11 a.m. when the bell rings.

There is a public presentation on environmental issues and rights Aug. 9 at the Senator Hotel from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The session is being hosted by the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) and Friends of the Porcupine River Watershed. You’ll be able to hear about what the friends group is up to, and CELA will be talking about indoor environmental contaminants, energy efficiency and retrofit programs, and how to stay informed about local environmental issues. The session is free and open to everyone.

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge continues to offer free activities for its Power Off and Play initiative. Tuesday there’s a tennis club at 10:30 a.m. at Leo DelVillano Courts, and a Science Timmins Open House and STEM challenges from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday there is a one-hour family swim at the Sportsplex starting at 9:15 a.m., as well as a fitness equipment and obstacle course from 11 a.m. to noon at Participark. Thursday is the farmers’ market scavenger hunt at the Urban Park, as well as family yoga at Participark at 6:30 p.m. For Friday, there is mini putting at the Hollinger Park course from 1 – 3 p.m., and crazy forts at the Timmins Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The activities are for kids up to 13 years and their families.
