New 3-way intersection going up in Schumacher

While it doesn't technically meet the criteria, staff support it for safety

SCHUMACHER - A new three-way intersection is going up in Schumacher.

Timmins council has given the green light to adding two stop signs on Fourth Avenue at Boundary Lane. It will create a three-way stop, as there is an existing stop sign on Boundary Lane.

The nearby park of the intersection was recently updated and city staff did an analysis of the area.

"Technically the data doesn't support (the three-way intersection) but after going on site and reviewing the speed limit and the road alignment, it's recommended that we put one in for safety measures," said Scott Tam, manager of engineering.

Coun. Bill Gvozdanovic represents the area.

"So I did try to drive it, and you can't even take that at 50 kilometres, you're pretty well going to roll, the road doesn't align," he said.

Because the city has stop signs in stock, the only cost for the project is the staff time to install them. The city report says that expense can be absorbed in the operating budget.
