There are no plans for a Food Basics at the Porcupine Mall, according to Metro.
At the end of August, the Metro grocery store at the mall closed its doors.
Since the closure, there has been speculation in the community about what could go in to replace what was the only chain grocery store in the east end of Timmins.
"At this time I can confirm there are no plans to open a Food Basics at Porcupine Mall," wrote Stephanie Bonk, Metro communications manager, in an email.
The closure was announced in July and affected 42 employees at the store.
Giant Tiger, which is also in the mall, has since expanded its grocery section. In South Porcupine, the Urban Farm also offers a variety of locally-grown food.
A shuttle service to the Timmins Metro location set up in the wake of the closure has also ended.
"When the Metro at Porcupine Mall closed a free shuttle bus service to the Metro in Timmins was offered. However, after five weeks the shuttle was cancelled due to the fact not one person used the service," said Bonk.
