The official countdown is on for the return of a grocery store to the city's east end.
Food Basics is slated to open at the Porcupine Mall on Nov. 25. A sign announcing the opening date went up outside the mall this week.
Beer and wine will not be sold at the mall location.
TimminsToday asked if this could change when the South Porcupine LCBO closes.
"I can confirm this location will not have a license to sell alcohol as permits are currently not being issued," said Stephanie Bonk, Metro communications manager.
In June it was confirmed that Food Basics is opening at the Porcupine Mall.
Work is ongoing inside the mall to prepare the space for the store.
Since Metro closed in 2019, which affected 42 employees at the store, there has been no full-service grocery store in the east end of the city, although Giant Tiger did expand its grocery section.
The end of November opening is on par with the company's plans to open ahead of the holiday season.
