Pair of new wildland fires in Kirkland Lake area

The fires are among 19 burning in the northeast region

Two new wildland fires were confirmed by early evening Saturday, Aug. 3. There are currently 19 wildland fires in the northeast region: 16 are being observed, two are under control and one is not under control.

  • Kirkland Lake 4 (KLK004) is located 1.5 km south of Highway 560 near Sydney Creek. This fire is being held.
  • Kirkland Lake 5 (KLK005) is 20 hectares in size and is located 5.5 km southeast of McKee Lake. Aerial suppression was carried out this afternoon and crews of FireRangers are on site.

The fire hazard is moderate to high for most of the Northeast Region. There is a large area of extreme fire hazard along the Great Lakes coast from Marathon to Webbwood and northeast to Nagagamisis Provincial Park to Timmins. There are additional areas of extreme fire hazard centered over Capreol, Temiskaming Shores, Longpoint Lake on Highway 560 and northeast of Timmins.
