The aircraft that was forced by mechanical difficulties to make a controlled landing at Timmins Victor M. Power airport early this evening was an Air Creebec Kingair 100 says airport manager Dave Dayment.

"All persons on board were evacuated after the landing without injury," Dyment told TimminsToday.

"The aircraft made it about half way down the runway on it's landing gear, but the gear wasn't locked in position," Dyment said. "They exited the the far end of the runway and slid approximately 20-25 metres before coming to a stop."

"With all said and done, they didn't even break any runway lights."

He also said that Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigators will be arriving in Timmins tomorrow to investigate the incident and determine what caused the landing gear to fail.

TimminsToday has received reports of an aircraft in distress.

Reports indicate the plane is safely on the ground at the Timmins Airport this evening after experiencing mechanical difficulties.

On it's inbound approach to the Timmins Victor M. Power airport the plane was unable to get it's landing gear to descend into landing position.

Emergency crews were on scene and standing by while the plane remained in a holding pattern, circling the airport, as pilots tried to sort out the problem.

The plane was able to make a controlled landing and was attended by emergency crews.

At the time of publication, the plane was sitting on the runway and all passengers and crew had been safely evacuated.

The second runway was opened with minimal delays to other flights.

TimminsToday will update this story as more information becomes available.
