With the warmer weather and improved driving conditions, the Timmins Police Service Traffic undertook a one day speed enforcement initiative at various school zones within the city of Timmins. This traffic safety initiative was focused on addressing aggressive driving behaviors in and adjacent to area school zones.

On an ongoing basis, the Timmins Police Service is in receipt of complaints with regards to aggressive driving from concerned parents and school officials alike.

As of late this afternoon, a total of seven drivers were served with speed related Provincial Offence Notices while two others received sternly worded verbal warnings. All offences took place in school zones with a properly posted 40km/h speed limit in place.

Traffic Specialist – Constable Troy Larose said, “Simply stated, school zones mean reduced speed for safety’s sake. Given the sheer number of young students who are making their way to and from schools in these designated areas, the onus to be particularly mindful of the posted speed limits is not something that can be ignored. Enforcement and public education are key factors in enhancing roadway safety in these areas.”

Campaigns of this nature will continue at varied locales and in keeping with the Timmins Police Service – Traffic Management Plan.
