Water levels in some areas of the city are slowly rising.

With the warm weather, snowmelt and precipitation, the water levels on Porcupine Lake and Porcupine River are rising, according to a statement from the Timmins Flood Advisory Committee. A flood watch has been issued for the Mattagami River.

"Some residences in the Lakeview Road, Golden Avenue and Evans Street area may be affected. The exact extent of any potential flooding is difficult to predict at this time and will depend on the weather," said the committee.

On the boardwalk in South Porcupine, the water is over the barrier and encompassing the benches and book box. It's also high as it flows under the Evans Street bridge. The roadways have not been impacted by the water levels yet.

The flood advisory committee is advising people living near the river and lake to monitor the developing conditions and be prepared in case the flooding worsens.

"These preparations would including moving any unsecured items from along the shore to higher ground as well as preparing a household emergency plan that outlines what you need to do should you be asked to leave your home," reads the statement.
