Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lydia Goff and radiologist Dr. Natasha Larocque have signed on at Timmins and District Hospital.

TIMMINS - Two new specialists have signed on to work in the city with a heart of gold.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lydia Goff and radiologist Dr. Natasha Larocque have joined the Timmins and District Hospital roster.

“Dr. Goff’s practice includes general orthopedics with a subspecialty focus in trauma,  while Dr. Larocque brings sought-after experience as a radiologist,” said Kate Fyfe, president and CEO, in a news release. “Both are fantastic additions to the TADH team and will make a  tremendous impact on the care available to people in the communities served by the  hospital.”

Goff was introduced to the area by her friend Dr. Kayla Cyr, who lured her north to do locum work at the hospital. Goff has a medical doctorate from the University of Montreal, and has completed an orthopedic residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland and trauma fellowship at Western University.

“I enjoyed my locum visits here,” said Goff in the release.

“They kept me busy and all the staff and patients were so kind. So, when I was offered a permanent job, TADH had already made a good impression on me with the opportunity to work in a team with excellent colleagues. ”

Larocque received her medical doctorate from the University of Ottawa. Since then, she did a diagnostic radiology residency training at McMaster University and a one-year clinical fellowship in abdominal imaging and intervention at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston. For the past four years, she's worked as a radiologist and assistant professor at Hamilton General Hospital, which is affiliated with McMaster.

She's always wanted to live in a smaller town and appreciates the close connection to the outdoors.

“I have a  young family, so I am looking forward to being a stone’s throw away from local hikes and other outdoor activities,” she said.

“I’m also looking forward to having real  winters again so I can enjoy winter activities such as snowshoeing.”
