TIMMINS - A preferred option has been chosen for a new reservoir servicing the east of the city.
After a class environmental assessment to look at the best site for a new water storage reservoir closer to South Porcupine, the City of Timmins says an elevated storage tank on Gold Mine Road east of the Dome mine entrance is recommended.
The Tisdale water storage reservoir is currently located about four kilometres down Langmuir Road and is filled by two trunk watermains from the Timmins Water Filtration Plant.
Last year, WSP picked up a $1.1 million city contract for the design and construction contract administration. Five locations were considered. The other sites were near Walter Lane on Connaught Hill, Crawford Street north of Highway 101, the west end of Ferguson Road near Davidson Road, and Highway 101 east of Bob's Lake.
The Gold Mine Road site is the preferred option due to the cost and minimal impact on the environment and residential areas. The full project report is available here.
The report is open for public review until Feb. 20. If you can't open up the project website, it's also available at city hall during regular business hours.
