A Kapuskasing man was charged with impaired driving after a traffic stop in Kapuskasing.

KAPUSKASING - Police say a proactive traffic stop led to impaired driving charges. 

Around 3:30 a.m. on March 2, James Bay OPP pulled over a vehicle officers saw swerving in its lane on Brunetville Road in Kapuskasing. 

The officer determined that the driver had been drinking, and they were arrested and brought back to the detachment for more testing. 

A 41-year-old man from Kapuskasing is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused was issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The accused has been released from police custody and has an April 29 court date in Kapuskasing. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
