NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF TIMMINS

*************************
The Public Works Department wishes to inform residents that the constant rain over the last three days has caused significant issues on many of our rural roads.

The Department is aware of potholes and wash board conditions on Kraft Creek Road, Sandy Falls Road, MacLean Drive, Ice Chest Lake Road and Langmuir.

While the roads have a lot of potholes, the driving surface is still very solid.

Motorists will need to be careful and drive according to the conditions for the next 12 to 24 hours We hope that the rain will stop sometimes today.

Based on the weather forecast we are scheduling graders to be out first thing on Friday morning.

To send any equipment to grade any gravel roads under the present conditions will make a bad situation even worse.

The Public Utilities Department reports that  both Water Pollution Control Plants and distribution systems have been performing extremely well under these severe conditions.

The Mattagami WPCP usually treats 21,000 cubic metres of sewage on a typical day.

Today we are recording flows in the range of 58,000 cubic metres. All of this is being managed while working in and around the NAC project.

Of equal importance, the Whitney-Tisdale system has also managed very well through the last three days of constant rainfall.

We have experienced only one small bypass event this morning at Station #2 and Station #5.
