The first official long weekend of the year is on the way!
If you want to get out and enjoy the day off with the family, there are some great activities planned in Timmins.
Here's some of what's happening:
Hit the slopes at Kamiskotia Snow Resort, it’s open Monday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The tube park is open from noon to 4 p.m. For more details on rates and rentals, visit kamiskotia.com.
The PSR race team is having a Family Day Lunch Fundraiser Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be soups and chili for $5 per bowl/dinner roll, and cookies or cupcakes for $1 each. You can also save 30 per cent off all day fees and rentals at Porcupine Ski Runners for the Family Day Weekend. It’s open Saturday, Feb. 15, Sunday, Feb. 16 and Monday Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a four-hour time limit on rentals, and they must be returned by 6 p.m.
The Timmins Fur Council's annual free fishing derby is on Porcupine Lake Monday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The holes are pre-drilled, and the council will have rods and bait available. To register your child for a time slot, email the Timmins Fur Council at [email protected]. If you want to drop a line, it’s the first weekend to fish for free in Ontario. From Feb. 15 to 17, Canadian residents can fish in Ontario without a licence or carrying an Outdoors Card.
There’s a public open house at the McIntyre Curling Club Monday, Feb. 17 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and throw rocks. Equipment is available, you’ll just need to bring a clean pair of running shoes.
Grab your skates and head out to Hollinger Park. While the skating trail is open daily, the Timmins Community Park Association will have the warming trailer and washrooms open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. That also means if you need to borrow skates, you can do so from the trails.
Have a little fun at Science Timmins from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a science show at 10:30 a.m. and planetarium presentation at 2 p.m.
