Weather closes multiple sections of Highway 11 (updated)

A winter travel advisory is in effect

The snowy weather has closed down multiple sections of Highway 11 in the region. 

According to Ontario511, as of 1 p.m. today (Dec. 4), Highway 11 is fully closed from Clear Lake Road in Kapuskasing to Gravel Road in Calstock. This stretch of road has reopened.

There is also a full closure from the Highway 65 in New Liskeard to Cedar Heights Road in North Bay. 

The Highway is down to one lane between Smooth Rock Falls and Highway 655, due to a crash, says OPP on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. OPP say this has been cleared. 

A collision has also been reported at Nicholls Road in Iroquois Falls.

School buses are cancelled today in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls. 

Environment Canada predicts up to 15 centimetres of snow through tonight. At time, it says there will be reduced visibility due to heavy snow and blowing snow.

"Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," reads the alert.
