Vehicle hits light pole in Hearst, driver charged with impaired: Police

HEARST - A driver who hit a light pole is facing impaired driving charges. 

On Nov. 30 around 3 a.m., James Bay OPP responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 11 near Quirion Street in Hearst. 

When officers arrived on scene, police said there was a vehicle facing south in the eastbound lane. A light pole that had been hit was laying across the eastbound lane. 

Police said the driver showed signs that they'd been drinking, and they were brought back to the Hearst detachment for further testing. 

A 31-year-old from Hearst is charged with operation while impaired - alcohol, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and careless driving.

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Hearst on Jan. 8. The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
