While the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation's (TADHF) Spring Gala is cancelled due to COVID-19, a local business is still following through on his donation.
According to the TADHF, Western Auto Sales has been a major donor of the hospital for the past 23 years. They recently donated $10,000 to the foundation, which was supposed to be its sponsorship for the 2020 hospital gala.
Even though the event is cancelled, owner Gord Wilson wanted to follow through on his donation.
"In times of need the hospital will be there for us, so I want to be there for the hospital, we all need it at one point in our lives," said Wilson in a news release.
With the current pressures on not-for-profits, TADHF executive director Jason Laneville said everyone needs to rely on donors like Western Auto Sales to propel fundraising efforts.
"The government funds the hospital to operate, it doesn't fund any equipment purchases or infrastructure renewal, that's what we do," said Laneville.
The cash will be used for the foundation's priority needs equipment list.
The foundation said the gala will return in the spring of 2021.
