Timmins Rock vs. Powassan Voodoos

Timmins’ Junior A hockey squad is on home ice for a regular season game. The box office opens 90 minutes before the puck drops. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (60 years and up) and sudents, $9 for youth ages seven to 12, and $7 for children six and under with a guardian. Sitting on the licensed balcony is $17. Tickets are also available online here.

Leo Club Information Meeting

Schumacher Lions Den, downstairs at the McIntyre Community Building, 85 McIntyre Rd.

The Schumacher Lions Club is on the hunt for youth who want to give back. This information session is for people ages 12 to 19 years and their parents to learn more about the Leo Club, which has youth work together on projects they believe will make their community a better place. As a group, Leos come up with projects, do all the planning and prep work, until the project is completed. The club will elect its own board of directors, including president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and up to three directors.

This popular market is set up weekly until Thanksgiving. Stop by every week to pick up fresh local food, shop the crafters and artisans, and learn more about local organizations.

Muriel E. Newton-White - Quiet Living, Close Looking: The life and work of an unsung artist of the North
Runs until Sept. 30
Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre, 325 2nd Ave.

This exhibit is curated by Felicity Buckell and circulated by the Temiskaming Art Gallery. It celebrates the work of Newton-White, who died in 2011. She lived quietly and was always connected to the natural world. She captured her surroundings in drawings, paintings and books, working in oil, watercolour, egg tempera and India Ink. Entrance to the museum is free.

The Hollinger Open Pit Lookout 

Get a glimpse into Newmont Porcupine’s mining operation in the middle of town. New this year is a bust of mining pioneer Benny Hollinger, who discovered the mine in 1909. It’s open seasonally seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except when the mine is blasting, which is twice a day.
