Wild fire confirmed west of Shaw Creek Road

The Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed a fire in the Timmins area.

The Timmins 9 (TIM009) fire measures 1.5 hectares and is located west of Shaw Creek Road. One fire ranger crew is working with municipal firefighters, but the fire is not yet under control. This fire was confirmed late this afternoon (Aug. 5.)

Two other new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region

  • Hearst 9 (HEA0.5-of-a-hectare a hectare fire located near the northeast shore of Big Rice Lake. It was confirmed late Monday afternoon and is not yet under control.
  • Wawa 11 (WAW011) is being held at 0.5 of a hectare and is located approximately 3 km northwest of Lochalsh.

There are currently 22 wildland fires in the Northeast Region, with 16 being observed, one under control, one being held, and four not under control.

The fire hazard is high to extreme for most of the Northeast Region. Areas located south and east of Pointe au Baril, Dokis, and North Bay are showing a low to moderate forest fire hazard.
