$200K of fentanyl seized in Hwy. 400 traffic stop, 2 Timmins residents charged

CARLING - Two Timmins residents are among those facing charges after a Parry Sound-area traffic stop that saw $200,000 in suspected fentanyl seized. 

On Aug. 21 around 1 a.m., West Parry Sound OPP pulled over a vehicle for a sobriety check on Highway 400 in Carling Township.

Police allege there was cannabis readily available. The vehicle was searched and police seized a gun, high-capacity magazine, more than $500 in Canadian cash, and suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $200,000. 

Three people have been charged. 

Yugam Raheja, 26, of Timmins is charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime

Harcharan Singh, 26, of Timmins is charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Opioid
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage

Terrence Fray, 21, of North York is charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Opioid
  • Passenger - fail to properly wear seat belt
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order - two counts
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Opioid

The accused appeared in bail court on Aug. 21 in Parry Sound.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
