HEARST - A person is facing nearly two dozen charges after an intimate partner violence-related investigation.
James Bay OPP says there are three victims in the investigation that started on Nov. 23 around 3:30 a.m. when police received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance on George Street in Hearst.
"As police were arriving on scene, a vehicle was observed leaving the area and police attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued to drive until stopping in a residential driveway," said OPP in a news release.
The driver was arrested and taken to the Hearst detachment for further testing as officers suspected they had been drinking.
A 39-year-old person from Hearst, who police are not naming to protect the identity of one of the victims, is charged with:
- 3 counts of overcome resistance by attempting to choke
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Assault - spousal
- 2 counts of assault
- 3 counts of assault cause bodily harm - spousal
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Flight from peace officer
- 2 counts of mischief - domestic
- 2 counts of fail to comply with probation order
- Insecure load
- Obstruct plate
- Disobey stop sign
- Fail to stop for police
- Possess unmarked cigarettes
The accused is still in police custody and is slated to appear in court on Nov. 25 in Hearst. Their driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
