3 charged after Sixth Avenue weapons incident

TIMMINS - Three people are facing charges after an incident that saw a notorious block of Timmins shut down over the weekend. 

On Saturday, Oct. 19, Sixth Avenue between Cedar Street and Pine Street was closed for a weapons investigation and residents in the area were urged to stay inside.

Three people are facing charges.

Davin Sutherland, 24, of Cochrane is charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm 
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition 
  • Carrying a concealed weapon 
  • Possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm 
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine 

Kayleen Alisappi, 18, of Timmins is charged with knowledge of a firearm. 

Joshua Taylor, 26, of Timmins has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. 

The Timmins Police update did not indicate if the accused are still in police custody or when their next court date is.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.

The stretch of road where the incident happened is notorious for serious incidents. 

In May, two people were charged with attempted murder after a shooting on Sixth Avenue between Pine and Cedar Streets.

In January, police issued an advisory about a heavy police presence in that area of town. In that incident, a man was arrested at the scene and a firearm was seized, though no further details were released.

In September 2023, two people were injured in a shooting and a man was charged with attempted murder.
