HEARST - A person accused of stealing from a motel room was carrying a prohibited weapon when arrested by police.
On Oct. 16 around 8:30 p.m., James Bay OPP were called for a theft from a motel room on Front Street in Hearst.
At the scene, police found one person with an item taken from the room. During the arrest, police found methamphetamine and a switch blade, which is a prohibited weapon.
A 47-year-old Hearst resident is charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence
- Theft under $5,000
- Unauthorized possession of a weapon
- Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine
- 4 counts of failure to comply with release order
The accused is still in police custody and is slated to appear in court in Hearst on Nov. 6.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
