CHAPLEAU - A drug trafficking investigation has led to charges and the seizure of suspected fentanyl, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.
Yesterday (Feb. 1), a multiple police forces executed a search warrant at a home on the zero to 100 block of Blue Jay Crescent in Chapleau, said Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) in a news release. The effort involved the NAPS north east drug unit, the NAPS emergency response team, OPP, and the Timmins Police.
The search was a result of a drug trafficking investigation into activity at the house that was search and drug trafficking into the neighbouring Brunswick House First Nation.
Suspected fentanyl, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized by police.
Three people — a 36-year-old man, 41-year-old woman and 35-year-old woman — are each charged with:
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Posession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused were released from police custody with condition. They are slated to appear in court on April 16.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
