FORT ALBANY - A fire inside of a home has led to charges for a Fort Albany man.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) officers, firefighters and paramedics were called to a fire in a Fort Albany home the afternoon of Aug. 15.

Earlier that day, police say there was an argument between a male suspect and multiple occupants of the home.

"The occupants of the home fled after the altercation became physical and the male suspect assaulted another adult male inside the home. The victim and accused are known to each other," said NAPS in a news release.

"Police also learned the male suspect is alleged to have started a fire inside the home following this incident."

A 29-year-old man from Fort Albany First Nation is charged with arson - disregard for human life, arson - damage to property, assault, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in court at a future date.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
