Hearst man arrested after online threats to kill people

Faces a charge of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes as well

HEARST, ON - On April 30, 2020, at approximately 2 p.m., the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with the assistance of the OPP James Bay Detachments' criminal investigations unit, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America, investigated a threats occurrence in the Town of Hearst.

Police investigation revealed that the suspect had written online posts threatening to cause death and bodily harm to several people.

Jeffrey Alexander Dell, 23-years-old, of Hearst, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Four counts of Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 CC, and
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order - Other Than to Attend Court contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC.

The accused was held in custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane, Ontario, on May 4, 2020, to answer to the charges.
