The Ontario Provincial Police in Kirkland Lake is investigating after human remains were discovered in Holmes Township.
The identity of the person has not been determined. Kirkland Lake OPP cannot confirm if it's Ashley Lafrance, who was reported missing in September.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity.
Although her remains have not been found, recently, three people were charged with first-degree murder. The 29-year-old was reported missing on Sept. 9, 2022, and was last seen on Station Road in Kirkland Lake on Sept. 7.
In October, Kirkland Lake OPP conducted public searches for Lafrance and urged residents to check their properties and outbuildings.
The Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit is continuing this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
OPP say further information will be released as it becomes available.
