Impaired driver calls police after ditching vehicle near Hearst: OPP

A 63-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving after getting her vehicle stuck in a ditch south of Hearst.

HEARST - An alleged impaired driver who ditched their vehicle was charged after calling police to report the accident. 

On Feb. 3 around 4:45 p.m., a driver called James Bay OPP after getting their vehicle stuck in a ditch on Maheux Road in Jogues, south of Hearst.

At the scene, the responding officer determined the driver had been drinking. She was arrested and brought to the Hearst OPP detachment for testing. 

A 63-year-old woman from Jogues is charged with: 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance

The accused was released from custody and appears in a Hearst court on March 5. Her licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
