Kapuskasing driver hit with impaired charge after traffic complaint

KAPUSKASING - A call from the public regarding a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 led to an impaired driving charge.

On July 27, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 11 in Kapuskasing.

Police located and conducted a traffic stop on the subject vehicle on Highway 11, east of Kapuskasing. Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old from Kapuskasing, was charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
