COCHRANE - A man giving a fake name to police has been charged in connection with a debit card fraud investigation.

Nov. 1 and 2, a suspect made 19 transactions worth $1,000 at eight businesses in Cochrane.

James Bay OPP issued an appeal for the public's help to find the suspect, and a call for service on Dec. 13 led to an arrest. Police responded to the call for service on Highway 11 West in Cochrane and located one person, who gave police a fake name.

A 43-year-old man from Cochrane is charged with obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and 19 counts of using a credit card obtained by the commission of an offence.

The accused was released from police custody and appears in a Cochrane court on Jan. 28.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
