A single-vehicle collision has closed the Mattagami River boat launch.

Timmins Police said in a press release that, early this afternoon (Aug. 2), a vehicle was involved in a collision off Feldman Road. The vehicle went into the river and an OPP dive team has been called in to assist.

There was one occupant in the vehicle.

The criminal investigation unit is still on scene at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.

"Witnesses saw the vehicle go into the water," said Staff Sgt. Chad Lilko. "We're still investigating the circumstances in regards to that, and we're still trying to identify the vehicle in question and the occupant."

The boat launch will be closed during the investigation and police are asking the public to stay out of the area.

There is no timeline on when the area will be reopened to the public as the investigation is ongoing.
