A report of a person with a gun outside of the Timmins library building that led to a lockdown has been cleared, with no threat found, says police.

This afternoon (Aug. 16), Timmins Police says a person was allegedly seen with a firearm outside of the building that houses the Timmins Public Library and Canadian Mental Health Association on Second Avenue in downtown Timmins.

While no notice of a lockdown was shared with media when it was put in place, a news release was sent out after the situation was over.

"Officers conducted a thorough search of the area. After an extensive investigation, no person with a firearm was located, and no evidence of threat was found," reads the news release.

"As a result, the area has been declared safe and the lockdown has been lifted. Both the Timmins library and the CMHA have resumed normal operations and are no open to the public."
