ATTAWAPISKAT - Bystanders held a teen down after pointing a replica handgun at a community pool hall, say police.

The evening of Friday, Aug. 30, Nishnawbe Aski Police Services (NAPS) were called to the pool hall on Main Street West in Attawapiskat for a man with a handgun.

"When officers arrived, they observed a male suspect being held down by civilians. Officers took control of the situation and completed the arrest without further incident," reads a NAPS news release.

"Police learned a male suspect had entered the pool hall armed with an apparent handgun, and then pointed it at an individual. A number of civilians intervened and successfully disarmed the accused."

Officers confirmed the item was a replica Glock-style handgun. No one was injured in the incident.

An 18-year-old man from Attawapiskat is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, and pointing a firearm.

At a bail hearing on Aug. 31, he was remanded in police custody.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
