The deceased person in the ongoing investigation in Moose Factory has been identified as Loni Chum, 21 years-of-age, of Moose Cree First Nation.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) are requesting members of the community to contact police with any surveillance or dash cam video they may have from Moose Factory from November 6, 2023, at 8:00 p.m., to November 7, 2023, at 8:00 a.m.
On November 7, 2023, at approximately 3:00 a.m., NAPS officers responded to a report of an injured person on Jaban Street in Moose Factory.
When police arrived on scene, a 21-year-old was located and transported to hospital by ambulance with life-threatening injuries. That person later succumbed to their injuries.
An investigation is being conducted by the James Bay OPP Crime Unit in partnership with Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (TIME), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the OPP Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
