KASHECHEWAN - A teen is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a woman in a remote Northern Ontario community.
On Saturday afternoon (Sept. 14), Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) officers were called about an assault at a Kashechewan residence.
At the scene, police found an injured woman who was brought to the nursing station for treatment. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, says NAPS.
Police say the suspect — a teenage girl — had arrived home and confronted the victim, who was assaulted with a knife. The victim and accused are known to each other.
Later that day, a 16-year-old girl from Kashechewan First Nation was arrested. Her name was not released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
She is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
She appeared at a bail hearing on Sunday and was held in custody.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
