COCHRANE - A teen is facing more than a handful of charges after allegedly threatening someone with a weapon.
On March 12 around 2:30 p.m., James Bay OPP were called to a Fifteenth Avenue residence in Cochrane where a suspect had allegedly threatened a person with a weapon.
The investigation prompted police to issue a notice about an increased presence in the area of Fifteenth Avenue and Sixth Street. The investigation included the OPP's crime unit, critical incident commander, tactical rescue unit, emergency response team, crisis negotiators, mobile support unit and bail support team.
A 17-year-old from Cochrane, whose name can't be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Uttering threats - cause bodily harm
- Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
- 2 counts of fail to comply with sentence
- Failure to comply with release order
The accused is in custody and appears in a Cochrane court on March 14.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
