Traffic stop on Highway 11 leads to impaired charge for Cochrane driver

A traffic stop on Highway 11, west of Cochrane led to the driver being charged for driving while impaired by alcohol.

On June 22, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, observed swerving on Highway 11, west of Cochrane.

Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver had been consuming an alcohol beverage, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, [a 30-year-old] of Cochrane, was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 9, 2024, in Cochrane. The accused was also issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
