TIMMINS - A weapons investigation has closed a section of Third Avenue.

The downtown Timmins road is closed between Pine and Cedar Street for a weapons incident that happened overnight, said Timmins Police in a news release.

"A heavy police presence is in place, and as a precaution, we are asking the public to avoid the area entirely," reads the news release.

"Both pedestrian and vehicular traffic will not be permitted through this area until further notice to ensure public safety and the integrity of the ongoing investigation."

Police are looking for video surveillance footage captured between 11 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 1 a.m. on Dec. 13. The area of note is from Spruce Street to Cedar Street, and Second Avenue to Sixth Avenue.

"At this time, we cannot provide further details about the specific nature of the evidence we are seeking, as doing so could compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation," said Michelle St. Louis, communications co-ordinator.

Anyone with information or video surveillance of the area should call Timmins Police at 705-264-1201. Evidence and video can also be submitted online here.
