TIMMINS - An unexpected gesture of kindness is getting local residents back on the road.

Les Filles d'Isabelle du Cercle Mère Teresa stopped by Community Living Timmins this week to donate $2,000.

The cash will be used to fix an accessible vehicle that's been out of service awaiting repairs.

"We didn't have the funds to repair it, so it's currently off the road, not being used," said Amanda Wessman, manager of community services.

The price tag to fix it is $2,145. With the donation covering the bulk of the bill, the agency only has to pay the extra $145.

Community Living Timmins is a not-for-profit charitable organization.

While it receives funding from the province, the vehicle maintenance and repair budget is very small and tapped out, she said.

The organization operates six supported group living homes, with each location having a vehicle.

"It's a necessity for all aspects of daily living. It could be for medical appointments, it could be for attending community activities, anything at all. It's used on a daily basis. A vehicle like this being accessible is imperative because in the winter it's very difficult," she said.

Les Filles d'Isabelle is a charitable organization of Catholic women who strive towards unity, friendship and charity everyday.

Volunteers raised the money by helping with bingo at Jackpot Time Gaming Entertainment at least twice a month.
