The annual TD Toy Bank Drive has officially launched.
At the entrance to the Timmins branch on Pine Street South there is a sleigh set up to collect this year's donations. The gifts will be distributed to local families through the Salvation Army.
“It’s that time of year where the people, especially the ones who are on low income, geared to income, who are on pensions, they have a hard time getting toys for their kids," said Craig Wilson, Timmins Salvation Army Toy Drive intake worker. "That’s where we step in, we supply toys for those who can’t really afford it."
While they generally get a lot of gifts for kids in the five to 10 year age range, he said they always need items for teenagers and babies.
TD Canada Trust branch manager Jenna Rochon said it's important for the bank to give back to the community.
“TD invests a lot in helping out the community,” she said.
“For those families that do need support throughout this time of year, we want to make sure that everyone has a great holiday, that everyone is able to put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas day.”
Donations can be dropped off at 6 Pine St. S during business hours.
