Brass knuckles found during traffic stop, Kirkland Lake man facing charges

HAILEYBURY - Police found brass knuckles during a traffic stop triggered by an automatic licence plate reader (ALRP) hit. 

On Nov. 5 around 11:45 a.m., Temiskaming OPP pulled over a vehicle on Rorke Avenue in Haileybury after the technology in the police cruiser flagged a licence plate. 

Police say brass knuckles were found and the driver is now facing criminal and Highway Traffic Act charges. 

A 47-year-old from Kirkland Lake is charged with: 

  • Unauthorized possession of weapon
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • Possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Breach of recognizance of bail
  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

The accused was held in police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Haileybury court on Nov. 26. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
